Bereavement & Grief
Losing a loved one can be one of the hardest things that we experience in our lives. To help support each other during these difficult times, St. Monica sponsors the Bereavement Group, a peer support group that is co-facilitated by two Bereavement Ministers. The Bereavement Ministers, who have also experienced losses in their lives, have received training to effectively and sensitively facilitate the group.
In the group, members join together to pray, reflect, and share their experiences. To help guide this process, we use The New Day Journal (Mauryeen O’Brien) as the foundation for our sessions. As a result of the group, many participants have experienced significant healing, and begun to rediscover love, peace and joy in their lives.
Bereavement Groups are held periodically throughout the year. Our next group is scheduled to begin with an orientation on January 5, and continues weekly on Thursdays, through March 15.
If you have any questions about the Bereavement Group, or if you would like to volunteer with this ministry, please contact Christine Gerety at christine@stmonica.net or (310) 566-1530.
