Detention Ministry
This ministry of presence to the incarcerated is hoping to receive from parishioners donations of unused and/or new Christmas/Holiday cards and stamps so that those detained in local detention centers and other county facilities can then send Christmas greetings to their friends and families. All cards and stamps must be brought to St. Monica Parish by December 5th. You can leave your donation at the Pastoral Center or bring them to the tables in the Duval Center.
Also, consider joining our parish Detention Ministry when they visit local detention centers and jails on any Saturday during the holiday season and bring the gift of your presence to a lonely prisoner. We are called to simply be present to those incarcerated who believe that no one cares. We provide quality pastoral care and a healing presence to incarcerated men, women, and children.
This ministry provides numerous types of service to the incarcerated, including the celebration of the Mass and Eucharist, preparation for the sacraments of Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation, one-on-one and small group dialogue and faith sharing, music for Eucharistic celebrations, prayers for the incarcerated and their victims, and the provision of stamps, writing pads, cards, pencils and other gifts over the holidays when permitted.
