The Gift of Prayer
“So where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” - Matthew 6:21
What is Stewardship of Time?
Stewardship of time and talent are often confused. Talent is what the Apostle Paul refers to as “the gifts and graces given by God for the good of others.” Time, on the other hand is simply that: the 24 hours each of us receives everyday. We are expected to make good use of that time and the way we use it is indicative of what is important to us. If our job is important to us we will spend a great deal of time there sometimes to the detriment of our families. If someone tells you they are very religious and yet we never see them in church their profession may be greeted with some skepticism.
Stewardship of Time - Prayer
Time means many things to different people, but God calls us to take time each we day to pray and worship. What those who pray on a regular basis often convey is a greater sense of serenity and a fuller appreciation for the gift of life. A fulfilling prayer life, steeped in a sense of gratitude for all that we are and have, can be a wonderful legacy you build for your loved ones, the community, our church, and yourself. There are many opportunities for personal and community prayer here at St. Monica.
Oh Lord, giver of life and source of our freedom, we are reminded that Yours is “the earth in its fullness; the world and those who dwell in it.” We know that it is from your hand that we have received all we have and are and will be. Gracious and loving God, we understand that you call us to be the stewards of Your abundance, the caretakers of all you have entrusted to us. Help us always to use your gifts wisely and teach us to share them generously. May our faithful stewardship bear witness to the love of Christ in our lives. We pray this with grateful hearts in Jesus’ name. Amen.
