Stewardship is one of those churchy words that may not be part of your regular vocabulary. A similar but older Catholic word is“offertory.” Some folks in church circles use the term “sacrificial giving.” These terms can be more easily grasped if we think of the“ship” idea in stewardship. It is about keeping the boat, or perhaps the “ocean liner,” of St. Monica Catholic Community afloat. But we would rather sail than just float, and so far, the generosity of so many has helped us to move full steam ahead.
Here are some ways you can help us to keep sailing through the waters of life and waves of challenges and be a rescue vessel to so many:
Prayer This is the easiest and maybe the most powerful thing you can do to help us navigate the waters ahead of us, especially if you are a visitor or occasional participant. We can also help you learn many different ways to pray and meditate and help you navigate your own waters. The Catholic tradition is rich in prayer and worship styles and forms. Our first and third Thursday evenings of introduction to contemplative prayer lead by Dr. Jim Finley, is one example.
Volunteering If you would like to explore the idea of contributing some of your time to our community, contact our parish administrator Mike Mottola at mike@stmonica.net or (310) 566-1502. This is a great way to begin to meet and get to know people who are taking the “cruise” with us. We can start you off in a dinghy or a paddle board.
Donations Online Giving online is easy! Just go to our website at www.stmonica.net/giveonline.You can make financial giving to St. Monica even more convenient and have a greater impact on our daily operations by setting up a recurring payment. If you’d like to learn more about this, contact our data manager, Chrystal Hagerty, at chrystal@stmonica.net or (310) 566-1513.
Memorial Giving You can remember a family or friend in a meaningful way by making a donation to one of our many special projects, such as our building campaign, Kenya outreach, and parish and school scholarships.Contact Brian Russell for more ideas and ways to do this at brian@stmonica.net or (310) 566-1552.
